Introduction: The practice of abortion is as old as humanity itself; primitive civilizations allowed abortion, which was recognized as an absolute right of the father over the children. Philosophers and doctors defended or attacked abortion, using moral, economic and political reasons, a trend that has continued throughout the centuries. Worldwide, 38% of pregnancies are unintended. The number of induced abortions annually is about 46 million; 26 million are carried out in countries where abortion is legal, and the remaining 20 million are practiced in illegal conditions. Methodology: A descriptive study was carried out with the aim of characterizing 50 patients who attended the voluntary termination of pregnancy clinic to assess their knowledge, concerns and perspectives in relation to the medical procedure they would undergo. Results: There was a predominance of patients between 21 and 25 years old, with completed pre-university school level. The main reason for deciding to have an abortion was to continue
with academic studies. 60% of the respondents stated that they would undergo an abortion again in the future if conditions dictated it. Conclusions: Abortion is a sensitive issue due to its medical, social, and economic dimensions. Individually delving into the causes and conditions that motivate the woman to make the decision to abort is essential in her management.
