Abstract

Chlamydia trachomatis infection is a very common sexually transmitted disease worldwide. Objectives: Determine the frequency of Chlamydia trachomatis in endocervical exudates from women referred to the Microbiology Service of the Manuel Fajardo Hospital in the first half of 2016, characterize the study population according to sociodemographic variables and determine the association between clinical-epidemiological variables and the results of the study. vaginal culture. Methods: The study universe consisted of the total number of women who came to the clinic with an indication of endocervical exudate to look for Chlamydia trachomatis and the sample consisted of 30 patients. Results: The greatest number of positives was found in the ages between 25 and 40 years; the highest percentage was white (70%). In the vaginal exudates we obtained 3 cases (10%) of Candida albicans, 8 presumptive cases of Gardnerella vaginalis (26.6%) and 3 cases of Trichomonas vaginalis (10%). There were 25 positive cases to the chlamydia test, which represented 83.33%. Other germs such as Escherichia coli (3), Staphylococcus aureus (1), enterococcus (1) and beta hemolytic streptococcus (1) grew in cultured vaginal exudates. The main clinical symptoms were bone pain (70%), abundant leukorrhea (58%), pelvic inflammation (30%) and vaginal pruritus (20%). Conclusions: The ages most affected by Chlamydia trachomatis infection in our study were between 25 and 40 years. The most frequent clinical manifestations were leukorrhea, bone pain and pelvic inflammation.
