Introduction: Chronic kidney disease in diabetic patients in Cuba, as well as worldwide, represents a serious health problem, associated with significant morbidity and mortality. For the prevention of chronic kidney disease in diabetic patients, it is necessary to know their behavior and the factors related to its appearance. Objective: To characterize the chronic kidney disease in diabetic patients hospitalized in the Nephrology Service of the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital during the period 2011-2017. Methods: A descriptive study was carried out through the review of the medical records of 150 diabetic patients with chronic kidney disease, admitted to the Nephrology Service of the hospital, during the period from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2017. Results: Chronic kidney disease predominated in the female sex with 56.7%, in the age group of 40-59 years and in those with a family pathological history of diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension. The diagnosis was late in 83.3% of the patients, with stages III, IV and V of the disease predominating. Conclusions: The stages of chronic kidney disease were related to the years of diabetes evolution. Hyperglycemia and obesity were risk factors related to the chronic kidney disease.
