Traumatic Cervical Fracture Dislocation: Anterior Surgical Fixation
Keywords:
spinal trauma, cervical fracture dislocation, anterior fixationAbstract
Spinal trauma, and especially cervical one, has increased proportional to progress, due to the higher speeds achieved by modern vehicles, as well as an increase in the construction of higher buildings, among other causes. Fracture dislocations of the lower cervical spine (C3-C7) imply mechanical instability, and their management is directed towards spine stabilization, which includes reduction, fusion, arthrodesis and internal fixation with osteosynthesis. On multiple occasions, it is difficult to choose an approach. We present a case of traumatic lower cervical fracture dislocation with neurological damage and anterior fixation as the alternative method used among different types of surgical approaches.
