Abstract

Ischemic heart disease remains the leading cause of mortality worldwide and Guatemala is not the exception, especially in adults over 60 years. Atherothrombotic disease is the main cause of acute myocardial infarction with ST segment elevation. Some methods of reperfusion through intervention procedures are currently available. However, these techniques are not available in most national hospitals in Guatemala, using drugs for myocardial reperfusion. A retrospective descriptive study was carried out with the objective of determining the efficacy of thrombolytic streptokinase treatment in patients admitted to the Internal Medicine department of Pedro de Bethancourt Hospital, data collection was carried out from 2014 to 2018. The frequency of the main risk factors and the criteria used to determine if the thrombolytic treatment was effective was listed. It was determined that thrombolytic treatment was effective in 69% of the patients, the main risk factors documented were the male gender with 76%, age over 60 years and smoking in 38%. The most commonly used thrombolysis criteria was the decrease of the ST segment with 77% and with the same percentage the pain relief reported by the patient.
